This is what I do and I don't see much difference in the way John does it. I just wish I did it as well!
Your new plane line is parallel to your stance line.
Open your clubface to the target line, take your grip and feel like the #3 pressure point is slightly above the back of the shaft. You are rotating both the left and right hand slightly counterclockwise (looking down) as John shows on the video. It sometimes feels like your #3 PP is right on top of the shaft, but it's not. Carry more weight on the target side, right forearm pickup and splash the ball out.
Try all of the hinge actions and let us know what you think.
