How do you teach/learn tempo?
It seems like such an easy thing, but apparently it isn't.

I've tried a bunch of different suggestions but no matter what I do it seems that a smooth swing is just not in the cards for me right now.

I get more of a whip like action where there is no distinguishable slowing and transition between the back swing and forward swing.

My right shoulder also tends to get tight at the top which throws everything off as well.

Any thoughts? Drills specifically?

Hi Grant. Man, I wish I could have your speed!

Here's the thing. If you watch some of Lynn's instructional videos with students, and with other pro's like Ted and Jeff, they go through a very slow rehearsal of the various positions as both practice and exercise. It is sort of a "Tai Chi" version of golf filled with static positions.

At some point, you must convince yourself that your golf Swing/Hit/ or Combo Swit is under your complete control and that is a good thing.

I think people mess this up because they never had a clear teaching about the importance of correct alignments. Lynn's teachings really work. CHeck this out! My club speed is barely 80 mph and I drive the ball (inside simulator) an avg. of 176 yards. I used to hit my 6 iron that far. I have an artificial hip.

Anyway, on the simulator mind you, I shot a 73 for 3 over par the other night. The guy who literally hits his hybrids over 300 yards was plus 8 on the same course.

I missed 2 fairways all night and my longest hybrid was usually short on the par 4's by 20 yards! But I stuck every wedge with 8-15 feet. I birdied two pAR 5'S and two par 3's. I even squandered two other birdies as I started to calculate my score on the back 9.

So, take it slow until your clear about what you are doing. We all should be spending at least 60% on our short game, anyway.
