7-23 Power Package Delivery Path
Quote:
7-23. POWER PACKAGE DELIVERY PATH The three possible paths of the Hands down the Inclined Plane (10-23) are the Basic Delivery Procedures and the Delivery Line Equivalents (2-J-3) must comply with them. Per 2-J-3, the LINE Delivery Paths are "Cross Line" procedures and the CIRCLE Delivery Path is "On Line" in their relation to the geometric Plane Line. For a Circle "Equivalent," the Hands sense (5-0) a flat gyroscopic circular "orbit" path from Takeaway (8-4) to The Top (8-6) AND BACK AGAIN. The player envisions - is conciously aware of - a turning wheel RIM motion of the Hands, Clubshaft and Clubhead toward and on through the Ball. For a Line "Equivalent," the Hands, from Takeaway to The Top AND BACK AGAIN, sense the Clubshaft as a wheel SPOKE tracing a straight line extension of the selected Delivery Path. The player envisions - is consciously aware of - a straight line wheel TRACK motion (rather than its rotation) toward and on through the Ball, or THROUGH THE AIMING POINT. (See 6-E-2-1.)

Normally, Delivery "ACTION (Thrust)" is "Cross Line" - Delivery "MOTION" is "On Line," even at Low Point, because the Delivery Path Angle (direction) is ALWAYS the Right Forearm Angle of Approach (7-3) even with the Circle Delivery Path (1-L-9 and -10). (Study 6-E-2, 7-11 and 7-19).
Now I am confused.
  1. There are Delivery Lines, Delivery Paths, Delivery Action (Thrust), Delivery Motion, and Delivery Path Angle (direction). I understand that Delivery Lines are used to guide the Clubhead and the Right Forearm, that the Basic Delivery Line is the true geometric Plane Line, and that one can use the Visual Arc of Approach or the Angle of Approach or the 10-5-E Closed Plane Line derived from the Angle of Approach as equivalents (2-J-3). I also understand that Delivery Paths are the paths the Hands can take toward impact (10-23). Can someone please explain what Delivery Action (Thrust), Delivery Motion, and Delivery Path Angle (direction) are?

  2. How does a Straight Line Delivery Path relate to a Swinger's Arc of Approach (or true geometric Plane Line) Delivery Line? The Path of the Hands would be a straight line and their thrust cross line although the player traces (5-0) the true geometric Plane Line or the Arc of Approach with his right forearm and #3 Pressure Point?

  3. How is a Straight Line Path of the Hands brought about, by the way, if the left arm is to remain straight (extensor action)? I had assumed that the Straight Line Delivery Path of the Hands was somehow caused by the Hip Slide / Axis Tilt, but according to 7-23:

    Quote:
The "Axis Tilt" (2-H) allows a Line Delivery Path but does not require it.
So, the player needs to do something in addition to the weight shift, hip slide, axis tilt to make a Straight Line Path happen. But what?

  4. Also, I do not really understand the meaning of "from Takeaway to The Top AND BACK AGAIN" in the first paragraph of 7-23. The last sentence from 10-23-0 seems to allude to the same:

    Quote:
The five Downstroke Paths are all valid for equivalent Backstroke shifts, also.
Does that mean that for Straight Line procedures the Hands also need to take a Straight Line Path on the Backstroke? If so, how do you do this? Do you aim the Hands at the Aiming Point even on the Backstroke?

I hope somebody can help.

There is that word gyroscope. Lynn talks about "cranking the gyroscope", "spinning the flywheel" is association with swinging. So. Hopefully Lynn will chime in an discuss his recommendations for swingers. So if swinging if a straight line delivery incompatible with spinning the flywheel and cranking the gyroscope. My aha moment is connecting all of this for the first time.

Thrusting with the right arm and shoulder by it's nature will be cross line and straight line.
Swinging you are cranking the gyroscope or turning/pivoting the rotor (body) using CF to create speed. You can swing and direct the hands in a straight line or you can swing and trace. Take a club and CF swing it back and forth with a full pivot. Direct your hands straight line or tracing -- you are not hitting but rather directing the hand path.
I believe Homer is demonstrating a straight line delivery CF swing 12-2-0!

JD is swinging cranking the Gyro the massive (in his case very massive) rotor. His hands are being
directed straight line to his aiming point well ahead of the ball. Beautiful.

In the Taly's training aid demonstration, Taly talks about 2 approach for swinging: 1) just turn your pivot and remain the impact alignment and 2) dropping the arms VERTICALLY and turning, at impact keep turining. This droppng the arms vertically belongs to straight line delivery?

Homer advocated a hands controlled pivot. Taking the hands straight line directly to aiming point is clear Taly or no Taly.

Delivery Path Angle: is an Alternate Target Line. This is not the Plane Line or the Target Line. It is the direction that the Back of the Left Hand and the #3 PP are facing/pointing at Impact. You probably use this procedure, without knowing it, whenever you play golf. Whenever you take 4 or 5 short practice strokes before a chip, you’re memorizing the “Delivery Path Angle” (where the Back of the Left Hand and the #3 PP are facing/pointing at Impact). The Thrust is "Cross-Line" (when he ball is positioned behind Low-Point), but because the Clubhead is “Hook-Faced", you know the Clubface will strike the exact Back of the ball regardless of Thrust being toward the inside aft quadrant of the Ball. So, you’re chipping a little out to Right Field but the ball will go where the Clubface is Aiming, which is along the True Target Line.

So, players that "Open" their Stance and Plane Line for Chip Shots are aligning the Clubface because the Ball is Played back in their Stance (Playing the Ball Back in your stance "Opens" the Clubface). Hitters simply Rotate the Club in their Grip.
