it just hit me like a tonne of bricks !!! in the last few minutes,
after spending time today (at work ), swinging a yard & a half long piece of aluminium shaft ( basically a Dowel equivelant )... it hit me..what i should be trying to achieve in a golf swing.
view the left arm, club shaft, club head, right arm...as a structure, much like a you might view some scaffolding as a structure.... and use the pivot to propel the 'structure' backwards in the backswing.and then forwards in the downswing ...alll on plane of course...BUT..the important piece being..that the "structure" never changes! ( apart from the bend aquired in the right wrist in the take-away/ backswing ...and the cocking/ uncocking of the left wrist/right elbow )...but the overall structure does NOTHING, it is propelled by the pivot and remains in its shape.
hope this helps....cos this image/concept has sure helped me.
the feeling..isnt IN the pivot...its a feeling...of maintaining that "structure", ie....the left arm wedge, right forearm wedge, bent right wrist, flat left wrist,..all of it..as one big "structure"..and simply.....i guess....instinctively...use the pivot to propel that "structure" both back & through....the structure doesnt change ! ( apart from right elbow cock + left wrist cock obviously )
hope this helps, focus on...i guess....maintaining that "structure" and powering it through (via the pivot)
another thought just came to me, it was me using the lightweight piece of aluminium rod ( basically a dowel )..which gave me the feeling.......
get yourself a dowel, lightweight....no clubhead therefore no instinct to want to "THROW" anything AT the ball...hence.....all i could feel....was that "structure"...arms, wrist shape ( flat left bent right )

Great post, Rave. Thanks!
Just wait until you feel this Structure when you PUTT!
12 piece, agreed, using the right elbow, i just didnt want to complicate matters any more than i had....i most certainly do use the cocking of the right elbow in the backswing.and do not swing it around my knees with straight arms ( like ive seen some people trying to do, lol )
I actually work as a book binder / print finisher, therefore lots of room to swing, in fact im thinking of putting a driving range mat & net in the basement so i can pop down there whenever i want ( i am self employed and make my own hours ).
One lil exercise which is helpful....get yer wedegs/structure, come down and through to both arms straight, the club will be off-to-the-left-side of you somewhat and NOT in the middle of you(typical flipper position there)...now...leave your arms and club where they are shuffle your feet & legs & hips round till the middle of your hips is facing the club again...drop it down and BINGO...youre back to impact fix...nothing in the structure changes ( apart from the pieces i mentioned at the beginning )...take it further, go to both arms straight, then add a finish swivel...now shuffle round again..unswivel and drop it down...and youre back to impact fix.....nothing changes.
It truely is...a 'Machine'.
For the longest time i was concentrating on the clubhead..."make the clubhead do this, make the clubhead do that, swiiiiiing the clubhead, square the clubhead"..etc etc.
dont concentrate on the clubhead...concentrate on the "structure"
if you dont have one already get a DOWEL, they are fantastic at giving you the feeling of this "structure" ( not to mention great for alignments etc etc )
swing with the dowel and WATCH WATCH WATCH as youre "structure" does not Change as you move through, holding a flat left wrist bent right wrist in my case ) and having the club come through & over is a piece of cake with the concept/thought of an unchanging "structure"....while it is next to impossible if youre thinking only the clubhead or even just the clubhead & clubshaft.
the "dowel" i use is actually an extruded piece of aluminium, but it is not circular in section, it is Square section, so i can FEEL where square is as well as see it.

You got it pops . . . BUT . . . you may want to propel it back by bending the Right Elbow rather than the Pivot . . . The Left ARM Flying Wedge is a BEAUTIFUL THANG. Shaft in line with the arm.

".....the "structure" never changes!"
"the overall structure does NOTHING, it is propelled by the pivot and remains in its shape."
The structure does change "going back" and during "Release".
But, you, as a machine during execution, do not want (or intend) to change it once formed by "sustaining the lag" with constant (pivot or whatever)acceleration. The "Law", instead of you, is gonna do the rest.
Of course, it's the simpliest and easiest with only pivot rotation .

"Sustain (Yang/陽) the lag (Yin/陰)" is "the unification of Ying and Yang" (陰陽合一).
The "LAW" creates the "effect", which is the "motion" or "feel", with the "cause", which is the "intent" or "command".
"Lag" is the secret of golf, passion is the secret of life.

Rotate, twist, spin, turn. Bend the shaft.
