K. J. Choi and David Toms are Hitters who have been taught to take their Backstroke to the Swinger'sEnd (Hands well above Right Shoulder with the Clubshaft approaching Horizontal). In their respective videos, instead of 're-tracing' and Drag Loading (10-19-C) -- the Swinger's procedure -- each is simply establishing those alignments most compatible with their true Hitter's Pattern (and with which they are most comfortable).
In other words, they are returning to the Hitter's Top -- Hands Right Shoulder High and On Plane -- with a minimum of #2 Accumulator (Left Wristcock) Lag. Pause each video at this point and you will see the classic Hitter's alignments, including the 'high clubshaft' pointing skyward. [A comparison of these 'swings' at this point with the Ted Fort's Top would be instructive. Help, hg!]
From here, each player begins his Hitter's Drive Load (10-19-A) toward the Ball; his Hitter's Random Sweep Release (Automatic / 10-24-C); and his Hitter's Angled Hinge Action (10-10-C) through Impact and Follow-Through.
OK, one small request. We have two slow motion clips of Hitters, so I went back to the videos to try and see a pre-stressed clubshaft for either player. I tried repeatedly to hit the pause button at the right moment, but couldn't capture it. Could HG help get a frame or two just before impact so we can see how the shaft is bending?
Thanks, hg. To answer your question, yes and no. Yes, I see some bending in the first frame, but it's opposite of what I thought a (radially) prestressed shaft would look like. I've seen numerous pictures of the shaft stressed by centrifugal force, where from a face-on view it looks bent like this-- "(". I just expected that with a hitter it would look more like this-- ")". Choi's shaft looks a lot straighter than most. Maybe that's the net result of the two forces for hitters?
Can't really thrust with the right triceps from the top can you?
These guys must really delay the right arm until the hip slide or turn brings
the power package in line for delivery.
