Flight control, hitting and swinging

It might have been discussed already, then please link to the thread:

I'm in the middle of converting to hitting (like a lot of people theese days ).
When swinging, I've used the Manzella teachings for flight control: aim clubhead in the direction you want the ball to start, stance open or closed the amount fade/draw you want. Maybe play the ball a little forward on fades and a little back for draws.

Will the same procedure work with hitting or do I remember reading something about moving the ball back for fades and forward for draws when hitting?

Same thing, however depending on the hinge action you employ you will get different results.

For instance if you were swinging with a normal horizontal hinge and did the adjustments above you'd hit "predicable" draws/fades.

However if you are truly hitting and using an angled hinge the fade will be more pronounced and the draw less. You will need to close the clubface as well. However i don't know how to explain to you.

Someone here does though and i'm sure they will respond.

Yes, but...

Aren't manipulated hands swingers bound by the ball position laws of Hitters? And aren't the vast majority of Swingers the manipulated hands variety?

That's what I was getting at Mike. Too often people will just says "Swingers move the ball here..." and "Hitter move it here..." without noting that most Swingers are not "True Swingers."

If you're a "True Swinger" you have to use dual horizontal hinge action and have no option to use an angled hinge. To me, that sounds like you're unecessarily limiting your options.

That's what I figured, I was just going over ball position the other night and remember what Lynn had written, so I posted it.

And at the time of the original post- it caused quite a fuss.

Which is why I didn't want to get into this and rehash it. But I still maintain that when you contact the outside aft quadrant of the ball with respect to the plane line, whether cross-line to the target or coincidental with it, it's not a draw, but rather a pull hook.
