In my routine I set my club behind the ball with my right arm only, making sure the shaft and forearm are in line and the club is aligned with my target. Then I step into the shot with a squared stance, hips square to the ball. I then place my left hand on the club maintaining the right arm alignment. My hands cover my left toe visually. I am now ready to go, or so I think. My question is, should my hips be open to the target somewhat, or do most hitters start from a square hip alignment?

Hitters can use preturned hips (slightly closed to the target line). This gives them the room to create a straight line path back from the ball to prevent roundhousing (going around the hips with the hands).
I wouldnt recommend open hips for hitters but I am not an expert.
