I don't have the Golf channel but i was at my brother's house today fixing his car and i was able to catch this playing lessons with the pros.
What was interesting is that i got to see TGM in action and how mixing components is a no-no.
I don't remember what hole it was, but i think he had 158 to the hole and it was on top of a ridge so he wanted to hit 7 iron there and boucne it up the ridge. Basically hit a smooth, soft 7 iron instead of a normal 8 iron.
What happened though, was he was trying to HIT but still "swung" at it. This caused him to throw it away a little and hit a pull.
He then said that it was a bad shot and he'd try it again. Instead of trying to "baby it" as he put it, which was just a much slower swing speed of his normal swinging procedure but his rythem was off, he said he'd only take this one to 3/4 (aka the right shouler or the end) and he'd make this one a more of PUNCH motion and hit it "down and through" as he said.
Sure enough, it was a backswing that went right up to the front of the right shoulder, didn't even look like he turned to the plane and just punched that sucker right into the ground.
Pulled off the shot how he wanted and it looked like on TV to about 10 feet.
COOL STUFF!
