TGM take on Fade/Drawing techniques
 

i was wondering what TGM takes was on how to work the ball...as far as i know theres basically two practical appoaches...either you keep the club face square and then change your body alignment OR, the Jack approach, where you have the same swing along the body for all shots, and you just manipulate the face angle by turning the face, and THEN regriping...I always kind of thought that the Jack way was how all the good players do it, cause its so much easier and i think just makes more sense...

But i was watching tiger hit a fade today, on this par3, and it looked like he defintely did it the other way, which surprised me...

The ball starts out on the line where the face points, so I aim the face where I want it to start, the ball is going to curve based on the path relative to that angle the face is aimed, so for a fade I am tracing a plane line left of where I aimed for a fade, right of where I aimed for for a draw.

The more I need to move it, going into cut or hook then I will really turn the face as there is only so much left and right I can turn the inclined plane. It works very well for me as I can move it in both directions.

The most consistent way for me to produce a fade is to apply (more) angled hinging.
