Swinger's Center

As a drill, I've been swinging a club with my left hand only. I start by moving the club back and forth a bit to build up momentum prior to accelerating the club to the finish.

In addition to encouraging a proper pivot, this drill seems to make it very clear, that when accelerating the club, there is a spot just below the navel that seems to be the 'Center' that drives, or propels the left side (shoulder, arm etc..).

Has any else ever felt this sensation?

There seem to be other benefits to this drill too i.e no steering, proper impact position, textbook uncocking of a vertical left wrist.

Anyways, I'd love to hear what you guys think about swinging with the left arm only.

LAO swings...

...were a favorite pastime for Mr. Hogan as he walked the fairways between shots. If it was good enough for Henny...:golf:

Thats where the similarity between he and I ends, thats for sure. :laughing9

This drill is the only way I can make a good pivot intuitively. Left to it's own devices, my pivot is a train wreck...

What do I think about swinging with the left arm only?

I can't do it. Well it's very difficult for me. It's one reason I think I'm accelerating the club mainly as a "hitter". But it's something I'm working on because I want to learn how to "swing" the club more and using my pivot than relying exclusively on drive loading. I'm also working on the finish swivel with left arm only practice releases which I've never done before in my life. I'm glad you made this post.

Birdie, there is no way we can do this thing via the printed page. Your progress depends upon competent 'hands on' instruction.

You're in Bronx, New York.

I'll be in Paramus, New Jersey, at The Barclays (August 21-24).

You PM me regarding your availability, and we'll make it happen on the grounds at Ridgewood CC.

:)
