John Riegger called me on Saturday to work with him Sunday and Monday at Warwick Hills CC, site of the upcoming week's Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He and Brian Gay are 'best buds' on tour, and they both flew into Detroit (from Hartford) on Norwest Airlines. I met them there on Sunday just after 11 a.m.

From the airport, a tournament volunteer took us to the club. Both players were given their courtesy cars -- two Buick Enclaves -- and it was off to check in at the Wingate. From there, it was to lunch at the local Subway. http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/index.aspx Jeff Overton, the young, third year tour player http://www.pgatour.com/players/02/84/75/, happened in, and he and the 'vets' had a spirited conversation about the local hotspots and 'finding the way about town'. Smiles all 'round and lots of great stuff. Ahh, to be young and talented on the PGA TOUR!

John and I headed back to club for our afternoon session, but storms rolled in after only about a half hour, and we retreated to the clubhouse. There we joined Brian and Eric Axley http://www.pgatour.com/players/02/30/48/ (and his caddy, Chad) watching the delayed telecast of the final round at the Travelers. Later, Lee Janzen http://www.pgatour.com/players/00/15/77/ pulled up a chair and announced that he knew the winner. Everybody proceeded to check their Blackberries and other handhelds, but Eric demanded that he be kept in the dark. All we would say is that 'the guy in the black pants won'.

After the rain, John and I went back to the tee and resumed our work. Conditions were now perfect . . . the rain had gone, there was no wind and the afternoon sun bathed the practice ground. Brian joined us a few yards away, but he understood that my job was with John these two days, and other than the occasional banter, he respectfully left us to work alone.

At 6:45 p.m., the tournament director drove up in his cart and let us know -- again! -- that it was time to go . . . the range had to be picked and they were running out of daylight. So, the three of us were off to the putting green. In addition to the putting practice, John and Frank Lickliter http://www.pgatour.com/players/01/10/32/ swapped hunting and fishing stories. I know one thing: If I'm ever in a 'survival in the wild' situation, I want to be with those guys!

Fast forward to 8:45 p.m. -- :shock: -- and we left the green for our respective Buick Enclaves and the local 'wings' place. By 10 p.m. we were done there, and our two-car caravan headed back to the Wingate for some much needed sleep.

John and I met for breakfast at 8 a.m. the next morning in preparation for a full day's practice at the tournament site. Brian and his caddy, Kip Henley (who had arrived late Sunday), were at TPC Michigan http://www.tpcmichigan.com/Home/tabid/1669/Default.aspx. The course is just up the road in Dearborn and is the site of next Monday's U.S. British Open qualifier. Brian is entered in the qualifier but has never played the course, so he took this opportunity to do so.

Meanwhile, John and I worked all day, and I caught the 5:44 p.m. Airtran out of Flint back to Atlanta and a full teaching schedule.

Point:

In all that time together, I never once heard Brian utter the words 'Stack and Tilt'. We have worked diligently in the past 2 1/2 years to center his head, and the resulting 'look' has led some people to believe he has adopted the S&T philosophy.

But, unless something has just happened -- $3 million later -- that is not the case.

Not a bad idea, Change. I make only about a dozen tournaments a year, but I'll consider it!

This latest response to jerry1967 happened because I had no other first-hand knowledge to offer.

yoda-I am really sorry I was not at the course Monday to watch you work with one of your students. Maybe I could have over heard something to help me. I have really learned alot from this site and it has help my game very much.

I live right down the street from the Buick course and I am normally there all day.

Eric is one of the pros that I thought was using stack and tilt. He and Brian's caddie was working on something in the swing.

I quess I am wrong.

Brian's right elbow was moving behind his hip on the backswing which I thought was a big stack and tilt move. Along with keeping the head centered.

Shows you I am still learning.
