Moe Norman and TGM
I started out with Natural Golf as well as several other promoters of
Norman's single axis swing. Now that I have discovered TGM, I'm wondering how the two might fit together. Any ideas here? |

Moe held the club differently. Zeroed out any or all Accumulator #3. Thought the Swing Plane was governed by the left arm. We like the Transfer Power of acc#3 and the Velocity Power of acc#2 and the Flying Wedges. But that's TGM. Nobody, Homer Kelley included, could ever tell Moe that what he did was not what he thought he did and spoke of- like the clubhead going straight to the target 2 feet past the ball. I know he felt that, but.... thats Moe and we don't mind. But he certainly did put that dumb thing (clubface) on that dumb thing (ball) into that dumb thing (the air) and into that dumb thing (the cup). We like Moe. Wish he was better treated by the Golf World. He was a savant- he had a gift from God. 6b |
Moe's "feelings"
Mike,
are you saying that Moe really did, except for the grip use TGM principles? How did he zero out acc. #2? |
Hey Moe! Nuck, nuck, nuck...

Scott, He didn't zero out #2, but rather #3. With his Left Wrist in a Level condition, Norman held the club more in the palm, instead of under the heel pad of the left hand. The Clubshaft and Left Arm when view down the line almost forms a straight line; probably the reason he felt the Swing Plane was governed by the Left Arm. |
Single axis is one way to swing the club. TGM covers all ways to swing the club. To copy one's swing would be like copying a signature. I don't think you can do it. Everyone's bodies are different and Moe was special.
To Zero out Power Accumulator 3, place your left arm and club shaft on a table and turn your (level left wrist) left and right (Zeroed Out) PACC #3, clubhead barely moves. Now cock your left wrist with your arm on the table and turn your left wrist to the left and right and see how far the clubhead travels. |

No- that is NOT what I am saying. I just pointed out a few things that he does that most TGMers don't do. The biggest is his Left Hand grip and how it effects th Transfer Power of Acc#3. It lacks any small pulley/Endless Belt effect on Impact and as pointed out- shifts the Plane to the Left Arm. Voids TGM can explain any stroke- for good or bad- it passes no real judgement. I am saying that what Moe believes he does is not what actual occurs. A case of "Seems to be" that every golfer or instructor relies on. Does Moe have a good swing? He has a GREAT swing. Would I use it or teach it? No- nor has anyone else. Natural Golf is an adaption of his swing. I don't even believe Moe was a Single Axis golfer the way instructors throws it around. Moe had a wrist cock, a weight shift that started the club and right shoulder down On Plane, etc. Almost 'Hit" like if he had any Transfer Power and a Right Forearm set prependicular to his Left arm. The bottom line to your first question is that many of us like Moe. |
