Up and Down with a Twist

Fellow Machiners

I once saw a trick shot artist give a show/demonstration prior to a Scramble. He could hit some impressive shots. I think he claimed to have the Guiness record for longest club (12 feet I think) used to hit a golf ball. During his show he said the golf stroke is no more than an "up and down movement of the arms and a level turning of the hips". He also mentioned when you discover compression it is a wonderful thing. Anyway, I have hit some pretty decent shots (pre and post TGM exposure) using that swing description, although not necessarily as a swing thought. And at times, when all else is not working, my clear key has abandoned me, my wedges are out of alignment, can't feel any pressure points in the hands, and I want to just hit the darn ball...I can "steady the head" and move my machine "up and down with a twist" with success. Is there anything wrong with that description of the golf stroke?

Thanks much.

He's describing the turning shoulder plane. Look in 10-6-D. I think Brian Manzella has a video describing this.

Turning vs Turned?

Thanks for the info. I read 10-6-d and all the references. But I got stuck on With a full Wristcock Stroke the Hands are "under the Club."

Can anybody elaborate? Does this mean if I were to go to the Top and stop, hold and look at my hands, my hands would be beneath the club and the grip pointing at the plane line in the distance. And with a less than full Wristcock the grip would be pointing at the plane line but closer?

I smiled when I read It is extremely effective and dynamically correct.
Can anyone elaborate why 10-6-b is the preferred Plane Angle-Basic for both stroke patterns?

Thanks much.

There are two versions of this - the vertical club version and the vertical arms version.
