Verizon Heritage / PGA TOUR / April 16-19, 2009
Brian Gay is now the leader through his 14th hole in Round 2. He has birdied six of those fourteen holes, including five in a row on holes 4 through 9, for a front nine 30. He is now -5 for the day and -9 for the tournament. The Golf Channel is televising Rounds 1 and 2; CBS provides the weekend coverage beginning at 3 p.m. EST.
Brian's 30 on the front side has been eclipsed only by Craig Barlow, who shot 28 in 2003. By sheer coincidence, I met Craig on Wednesday when he joined John Riegger and me for lunch at Jennings Mill CC, site of this week's Nationwide Tour event in Athens, Georgia. He and John live about two miles from each other in Henderson, Nevada (just outside Las Vegas), but only see each other on tour! Go Brian! :golf: http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboards/...012/index.html |
go Brian !!
Great
fingers crossed, keep us posted Yoda!! |

Seems Like Old Times

I'll be at Quail Hollow the first part of the week with Curt Sanders, who is in on his exemption as Carolinas PGA Player of the Year. If you're there on any of those days, flag me down. I'd like to meet you! I was last there in 1969, a young serviceman watching Dale Douglass win the Kemper Open. :salut: |
When I lived in Myrtle Beach I played with Curt a few times in some tournaments. Great player, great guy.
Awesome to see so much of Brian so far. Good luck for the rest of the week! 3JACK |

My Kind of Leaderboard
Brian finished with a fine, 5-under par 66. He is at -9 and leads by one. Here's the second round recap: http://www.pgatour.com/2009/tourname....ap/index.html
And, the leaderboard: http://www.pgatour.com/r/leaderboard/ Finally, check this video clip from the PGATOUR.com: http://www.pgatour.com/video/?/video...xmintv.pgatour :salut: |
Gooood
Great front-9. Hopefully we'll have as many pics of Brian the next couple of days!!
I was wondering a bit about Brians extensor-action at address, or should I call it his non excisting EA at address. Is it something that you've worked on, talked about?? And do you (Lynn) see it as a flaw in Brian motion? GO Brian!!! A couple of 5 in a row streaks of birdies and you'll be dressed in that nice jacket sunday afternoon:golf: :golf: :golf: |
Scary Good
As good as Brian's round was, he burned the edges on quite a few putts; his round yesterday was inches from being really low. Go get 'em the rest of the weekend, Brian!
Did anybody catch the talking heads trying to break down Brian's slo-mo driver swing today? Sounded to me like they were struggling to define a 'hit' :). |
WOW!!!! Fun to watch . . . GO BG!!!

I quite like how Kostis, Faldo et al are all saying that Brian can get another 20 yards if he holds his angles better.......:eh: Alex |

I'm spending Sunday morning with Hennybogan here working on my swing, then we'll be rooting Brian on through the finish. ![]() |

Hah. Is there footage of this anywhere? I missed it but saw the last few holes. Wonder what they thought when he hit 8 iron on 18 from 171? Brian Gay's motion is so simple. Beautiful and machine like. |
Quote:
I believe on 18 they said something like "Wow, 8 iron, hope he gets it there"...not the exact words, but they were definitely surprised! His swing looked so good the last couple days. Never did get tired of hearing the annouccers say "perfect shot" :). |
I think Faldo said something like Gay could add more yards if he just allowed his hands to release through the ball instead of holding on. He said this during an analysis of Gay's swing where Gay held the flying wedge perfectly.

After Nick put the green jacket on Tiger in '97 he began an effort to increase his distance, that I think anyways, played a part in his eventual demise as a player. At around that time he was invited to Shady Oaks to meet Ben Hogan whose advice to him was to forget about how far down the fairway he was but instead focus on being on the correct side of the fairway. Brian could win on any course. Fairways and greens take precedent over driving distance stats. ob |
Golf Central
I am going to have to start watching the Golf Channel with the volume off...couple of "analists" on Golf Central just described Brian's swing as "unathletic"..."vanillalike"... The only saving grace is they do pick Brian to win on Sunday.
Go get them Brian...how about a 67 on Sunday and a trip to the Masters. My buddy Chris and I would love to come to Augusta and see you play after we see you at Riviera next year.:) |
Thinking good thoughts
I would like to say how happy i am for Lynn and all the
people who have had a part in Brians development. as i watched the golf channel the CBS.......i was so proud of Brian. No i don't know him, only of him through this site. Brian is the ultimate professional. Watching him play, watching him concentrate, watching him acknowledge the crowd..(ULTRA PROFESSIONAL). he never seems to lose concentration. as stated before...i don't know him personally.....but i would think he comes from a disciplined background...i say that as a positive.....not to high.....not to low......one last comment.....i don't know his caddy but to me watching them together....its a perfect fit. I hope tomorrow brings positives to Brian and all those associated with him... good luck Brian all of sarasota florida.....is with you one.....hjack......choose 1 |
Go BG!!
Great to see so much BG coverage. I am really going to enjoy watching the final round today. Oh, and HG is right, the Golf Channel really sucks these days. I don't care for their new look. It's a shame. I liked the early days when they played all the old matches, the big three, challenge golf, etc. That Michael Breed is like the Jim Cramer of golf. Annoying.
Anyway, GO BG!!! and congrats Lynn. |
Today was the first time I had opportunity to watch a replay of yesterdays play. I dont have the channel at home so this was at the club.
One thing that hit me was....... Did someone say Extensor Action????:salut: :salut: :laughing9 Talk about structure. IŽll try to follow you through the net today. Go Brian!!!:headbang: OOOPPPPSSS!!!! I forgot, also GO :yoda: |
Surfs Up!
Ride that wave, Brian, right into Victory Beach! Best of Luck to Brian, Kip and Lynn.
|
Nice start.
Birdie, eagle start. 6 shot lead. Thank you very much. Awesome!
|
Watch his set-up, that right forearm is on plane with the shaft perfectly. His swing looks great, looks like we'll see a plaid jacket on a golfing machine!
|
I love Brian Gay's swing. So solid, so simple. Man, we're gonna see a lot of him on TV in the future, I think.
His game is made for the majors. Who is he working with anyways? ob |
Quote:
Brian is working with Lynn Blake, the guy that's teaching closest to the ideas of Homer Kelleys "The Golfing Machine"....they just mentioned it on the danish golf channel:thumright If the commentator understood my mail he'll mention something about that right forearm on plane and Brian being a hitter.....and he just might tell about LBG. |
Just watching tonight's coverage. Man oh man. Brian is hitting really well and is Mr Automatic. Go Brian!!
Alex |
Biz Hub View
Peter Kostis is still trying to understand Brian's motion with the slow mo camera...rock steady head...right leg maintains flex in backswing...ok...ah...an unusal move thru impact....his leg(s) straightens thru impact...almost as if they are moving backwards....someone else pipes in...Greg Norman use to do that:)

Another bird
Back to 18 under and a lead of 8.:golf:
Go Team LGB. :salut: |

Loren Roberts all time record here is 19 under.

What????
John Riegger is Brian's coach along with Lynn Blake? Someone needs to text Ian Baker Finch. He did mention that Brian was a Golfing Machine guy. |
LB just got mentioned as his coach on CBS.

Exibition....a GREAT SHOW!!!
Prime time for Brian......Lynn.....TGM.....and.....Homer Kelley:salut: |
Post moved.
22.06 hours in the UK and John Riegger's recommending Lynn Blake to Brian Gay just got a mention.
Nicely timed as Brian just picked his ball out of a fairway bunker clean as a baby's bum. Next mention "wonderful shot from 115 yards" followed by Bizhub complimentary review. BG's on fire. Next comment as Brian sinks his birdie putt - "He's giving a Master Class here today". 9 clear and cruising. |
Vertical hinge out of a divot and rolls in another birdie, how good is that?:salut:
|
pp # 3 anyone????
did you see the slomo of his approach to 16? |
Congrats to BG.
What a run away... |
