Shoulder Turn & Hip Slant
Discuss the relationships, and/or the effects of matching various Hip Slants with the various Shoulder Turns.
|
Can we make a distinction between Shoulder and torso?

Shoulder/Torso
Quote:
Shoulder Turns in TGM concern Flat, On Plane, Rotated. The Torso is related. For example, the players that have so called slice of "pie" at the Top have a different torso position, than those that do not, as advocated by the Stack and Tilt. The Stack and Tilt guys like a Zero Pie, with a steady head at the Top... which looks like 9-1-6. These types of things along with matching the hip slants, which is mostly controlled by the Knees... is what I am talking about. More detailed Zone 1 info. |
I think that both can be done. The biggest deal about S&T or the M**** stuff, is about the Biological relationships when an athletic move is being done. The head must remain as still as possible.
That raises the question what type of movements must be done to do it. I don’t debate on were or what really is the center of the swing. The reality is what is going to keep the head still (or as still as possible) Another situation about the spine on this model is that your spine is not fixed or is it staying in the tilt as it would seem. You’re trying to change the relationships of the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine through out the swing to keep the head there. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z..._42PM_0001.jpg http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z..._42PM_0004.jpg http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z..._42PM_0007.jpg http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z..._42PM_0009.jpg |

It also has to do with the spine bending to the side . . . check these knees . . . and check the level hips too . . . there ain't much head motion in this movement either . . . . ![]() So the knees can "unbend" and the head stay centered AND the hips can move right and the head stay centered AND the spine can tilt left and the head stay centered. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Mr. Bucket,
Who is the Guy Wearing the White hat and light Green Shirt in the Sequence Photos above? |
This head stays pretty centered and the hips go WAY right and knee stays bent spine tilts left. . .
![]() So the hips can move in both directions and/or slant or stay level and the spine must bend in order to accomodate a steady head or vicey versey . . . you just gotta figure out what works best for you. Colin is different than Badds is different than VJ Trolio is different than Nicklaus is different than Hogan etc. etc. And the resulting pitch of the shoulder and how the arms match up to that is a different story. ![]() ![]() Hips go forward and waist bend goes away and is replaced but the spine bending to the side . . . stand up straight and bend your spine to the side, scratch your lower thigh just above your knees then turn . . . that's what kinda happens. ![]() Or if you don't push your hips forward and get out of the waist bend you got this look . . . ![]() |

That and it helps you get the club to bottom out in the right spot . . . and the club to swing on a "consistent" arc in rhythm. |

Thanks Mr. cp!!! The neutral spine, or fixed spine is NOT actually what is going on... as you say. Another thread that had input from Mr. Skywalker had quite a bit on information concerning this. The TORSO may appear fairly stationary(steady head, no bobbing, no swaying, etc.), but other things are going on under the torso to keep these things that way. Again... what about the different Shoulder Turns and Hip Slant relationships and combinations? For example... Rotated Shoulder Turn with Standard Knee Action, and other combinations that can work well together, and some that may be difficult. |
Yep.
They change due to ball placments and baseline changes. Which should be set when the computer is ready. So may develop a shift of the spine. Some do not. The key to playing them is finding yours and stick with it. |
