Tom Tomasello video's

HI guys,
I have been studying Tom's video's for a while, (particuarly chapters 1 & 2 ),and now and I'm taking his teachings to the range. I seem to be hitting the long irons and woods fine usually, with a tad of a draw at times, but my short irons are push's or a slight fade at the end. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this ? The short irons are being hit dead center of clubface if that helps. This man's video's should be required viewing ! I'm just hoping I can take it to the course cause I know the answer to those pushes are in video or someone here has it.

If you are a TRUE SWINGER, you may just have the ball TOO FAR BACK in your stance with the short irons. Move the ball UP, until they straighten out.

If you are NOT a TRUE SWINGER, like many/most people, this could still help. Also, check your HINGE ACTION,AND THE FOLLOWING SWIVEL. If you are unintentionally getting ANGLED HINGING, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY FADE.

Of course, an unintended BENT PLANE LINE(aimed TOO right) can cause all kinds of problems, so check for this.

Hi, I'm new here and have a couple of questions. I have watched the Tomasello videos that are downloadable on this site and on the Croker website. Are these the same ones you're talking about or are there others? I really enjoy watching this guy. He's deceased now, is that correct? Really too bad if so. Secondly, since I'm new to all of this, not golf, but TGM, would it be wise to buy the TGM book or should I wait awhile. I've heard it can be a difficult read for non technical dummies like me. Thanks alot.

Tomasello Videos

This site has two sets of Tomasello videos. I believe DG (Delaware Golf) provided the set that was shot in Australia.

The other set shot at Tomasello's facility was provided by Lee Dietrick.

Ed's correct...Tommy gave me the video from Australia in October of 1993. The video was shot in Australia in 1989. The video from the "Letter" series was shot at Tommy's Myrtle Beach studio 14 years ago.

Tommy's big thing was using right arm acceleration for both hitting and swinging...

Tommy passed away some time in the mid-90's, I don't know the exact date.

Thanks for the info. I believe he was a man I would like to have known. I'm sure there are many here who can shed light on TGM so I think I will order the book. There are so many methods out there being advertised as "The way to make golf easier and knock 12 strokes off your game in a week". I have only been working at this game for 11 years and at an 8 handicap I guess I haven't done too badly but when I play with guys who are 5 to scratch or better I realize just how lacking I am. It truly is a humbling game. Don't really see how anyone who plays golf could ever be snobbish. Thanks again for the information.

Tommy's videos are really good. I've picked up so much good information on this site, (the short game video was PRICELESS.) There's something about Tommy's videos that just click. This thread is very timely as I fought some of the issues in the initial post that I just worked through this morning.

I apologize for not using the correct terminology, but previously I had worked on getting at impact fix at the top of the swing. In the Tomasello 'pivot' video he talkes about setting the impact fix as the first move, then pivoting. I tried it today and lost the push I that had haunted too many of my iron shots. Everything was dead straight from a 5-iron down.

And now I just read the 'swivel thread'....there is SO much I feel clueless on, but my golf swing has improved tremendously since getting on this site!!!

Tommy is great to listen to ...in a video clip that I recently rec'd he had a great quote regarding all the so-called experts who write about golf mechanics...

"opinions are like noses...everyone has one...they all have holes in them...and they smell alot".

Not sure if it's an original...but it's a classic!

thinkin2 05-08-2006 08:11 PM

Yep, I've heard sayings similar to that but it wasn't noses if you know what I mean. I think he was being a gentleman. The only things I've seen of him are the vids here. Are any of you aware of others or any books? Thanks.

I was wondering what some of the senior members had to say about Tommy stating that hitting is less powerful and results in more fades, he said Trevino went to more of a swing and increased his distance.

I also find it strange that Tommy called what he taught a pull type movement vs a push, but his videos are all over Peter Croker's website and Croker definately teaches a pushing method.

Ted does alright.

It's an individual thing mostly, I think.

ColtsFan 05-09-2006 02:14 PM

youre right, I saw that vid clip of him hitting a PW incredibly far. Birdie_man, have your tried both swinging and hitting?
I know everyones different, but Ive toyed with hitting and just crushed some balls, right on the screws, would go out and try it the next day and couldnt hit squat.

thanks

birdie_man 05-09-2006 03:11 PM

I can Hit.....and do Hit short irons and punch shots.....a lot of ppl do when they are hitting punches- whether they know it or not....

....but my "full swing" does go to the End.....Swinger with everything 6 or 7 iron and longer (unless hitting Punch shot....3/4 swing).

Still learning tho.

ColtsFan 05-09-2006 09:12 PM

always learning that for sure....I just need to get my hands on the book, but I should probably be a patient and wait for the next edition.

If anyone has anymore video's or letters from Tom T. I would love to have a look ! The guy was a great communicator. I believe Yoda and Tom differ on some things but the messages seem to be similar, imo.
The 2 thing's I'm struggling with is Tom say's to throw the club from the top while keeping the right hip back. But he says in one video you MUST keep the left hip turning thru the whole downswing....well it's hard to keep the right hip still while your turning the left. Can someone lift the fog on this. The second thing is he puts his left hand in a kocked posistion for pitch shots on the video, did he also set them this way for full shots ?

The recommendation on keeping the right hip still is a drill. Tommy is getting Lee to feel the Magic of the Right Forearm in that piece of the video...for the advanced player of Tommy's approach, one knows that recommendation is really a drill to a get a feel for the right forearm starting the downswing instead of the lower body starting the downswing...the hips and shoulders will respond to the action of the right forearm.

Tommy used a standard overlapping grip for his full swing and the rest of his shots...the grip (in his left hand) that Tommy takes with the club for chip shots in the "letter series" video is another drill...to get a feel for the flat left wrist.
