Favorite Swing Thought when Playing
Curious, what is your favorite TGM swing thought when you are playing?

Have Mop Will Drag

Hai...yak!

"Karate Chop to the inside quadrant ball" |
Visualizing the shot.
Staying in balance. Holding my finish until the ball stops. |
for me its: "fly me to the moon, let me sing among the stars....let me see what spring is like on...jupiter and mars."
lol |
what works best for me
is singing a waltz, such as "The Last Cheater's Waltz" by Emmy Lou Harris.... Anything that occupies the conscious mind just enough to keep it from getting in the way.
My putting thought is "Where else could it go?":D Obi WunPutt |
I've got a feeling about this one.
Trust your Educated Hands to do (feel) what they have been trained to do.

Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow. Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow. That's ideally :). For TGM thoughts I usually think of just loading the club and then right shoulder turn thrust to the inside quadrant of the ball. |
Sooooo many I don't know where to start.
Here are a few:
This one I always use on every shot I hit, even on the range:
|
Sense the club with your fingers. Feel the pressure.
The left arm is always swinging... AND IS ALWAYS PASSIVE (Automatic) until Hinge Action. |
"Sustain the lag toward the inside corner of the ball".
|
Great Clear Key
Matt,
I like your Clean Key! What a great way to play on automatic. Jeff |
PowerDraw,
Is yours a clear-key? I really like it, and it take about 13 seconds to hear it in Frank's voice. |
for me, it's:
pivot, slide and drag. |

The last shot I came over the top, so this next shot I am going to aim further right!! :D

Clear Key
From the Man himself (Carey Mumford):
Mary had a little lamb I wish I had one too. Mary had a little lamb I wish I had one too. Mary had a little lamb ............... He wants you to come up with your own but once you hear that you can't get rid of it. |
I COULD have a ton
Well, I hope to one day have zero TGM thoughts while playing!
My current thoughts are: 1. Keep the butt of the club pointed at the planeline during back stroke. 2. Get to both arms straight and carry it as far as possible into the follow-through. |

Cisco's System

If that's you in your avatar -- and it sure looks like it! -- you have made some VERY serious progress since our time together that late fall evening in 2004. Do you remember your post describing "the Mad Man with the Impact Bag?" :D I'll never forget the night we met! BTW everybody, as you may know, there are night-time videos of my Golf Swing (and Hit) available for viewing in The Gallery. It was Cisco who recorded them during his lesson and then later asked if he could put them up on the site. That was one of the easier questions I've ever answered! Thanks Cisco! |
Windmills of the Mind
Quote:
"Almost all the PGA TOUR players I've worked with have at least some sort of swing thought. It is usually very general. In my case, I might think, 'Swing to a complete finish.' I've gotten into trouble in the past thinking too specifically -- for example, put the wrist five degrees this way or that -- so I now I keep it general." Personally, I am very active during the Pre-Shot Routine rehearsing the various Feels of my Stroke (3-F-5). In your Routine, as Homer Kelley used to say: "You're a very busy guy!" And as a key to the Stroke itself -- Expanded Translation per 3-E -- I find "Drag the wet mop" or "Trace the Plane Line" just as 'distracting' a thought as "Mary had a little lamb." Plus, it gives me something positive to do. The Mental Game. To each his own. |

Thanks Lynn!

The pleasure is all mine Lynn. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge and please continue to do so. I also took a lesson from Justin and I would recommend SoCal TGMer's to take a lesson from him. He's got the passion and knowledge of a Jedi.:) |
From the Head and then down...

The passion and the knowledge flows because Lynn cared enough to share unselfishly. |
I had a wonderful conversation with Justin on the phone yesterday and I vouch for his compassion for TGM. He traveled a bumpy road but I am glad he found a home in the Swamp. Nice work Justin.
Thoughts: Trace the plane line and keep the shiny side of my right forearm facing "skyward and lower" than my hairy left forearm coming into the Storage alignment. A mouth full but it keeps my wedges set perfectly for impact release, allows my right shoulder to be on plane and prevents any or all OTT. |
Welcome Back!
