Where do you feel the optimum position of the elbows is when using a shoulder only putting stroke? I have always let mine just sort of "hang there" based on having relaxed arms. This equates to an inch or so of gap between the elbow and the bottom of my ribcage on each side. For some reason I just "tucked my elbows in" while practicing earlier in the week so they made contact with my sides. It feels much more connected and structured and seems to translate to less wobble in the stroke. Haven't taken it to the course yet, but I'm optimistic it will have a positive effect.
im interested in hearing VJ's input on this. i also have experimented with this and also feel very connected when i tuck them. the only problem i have found for me is that it allows the hands to rotate easier and makes for some pushes and pulls. have you tried to put the shaft in line with both forearms and putt from that position. it looks similar to Stuart Appelby and is very efficient.
